Wunderbarer bebilderter Überblick über das faszinierende Werk dieses außergewöhnlichen visionären Architekten
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) passte seine Architektur der Landschaft an. Die harmonische Beziehung zwischen einem Haus und der Natur war dem Amerikaner sehr wichtig. Das bekannteste Beispiel hierfür ist wohl Fallingwater im ländlichen Pennsylvania. Das Haus scheint auf einem Wasserfall zu thronen und wurde vom American Institute of Architects als „beste Arbeit amerikanischer Architektur aller Zeiten“ gekrönt. Dass sich Bauten der Natur unterzuordnen haben und nicht umgekehrt, wird an Wrights Präriehäusern deutlich. Die Häuser fügen sich mit ihrem sehr individuellen Grundriss in die Gegebenheiten der kargen Landschaft ein und wachsen weniger in die Höhe, als dass sie sich individuell auf dem Boden ausbreiten. Hoch zu bauen war Wright indes auch gegeben. Er gilt als „Vater der Wolkenkratzer“ und schuf unter anderem den Johnson Forschungsturm in Racine. Sein wohl bekanntestes Werk ist das Guggenheim-Museum in New York.Im vorliegenden Werk aus dem Taschen-Verlag stellt Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer ausgewählte Bauten Wrights in chronologischer Reihenfolge vor. Sehr gelungen ist die einführende Biografie, die den großen Architekten als liebenswerten Menschen vorstellt.
